I am an Assistnat Professor in Korea National Open University. I received my Ph.D. and M.S. from the department of Sociology at Seoul National University. , and B.A. from the department of Music Composition (specialty at Musicology) at Seoul National University.
Before pursuing to be a sociologist, from my teenage to my bachelor's year, I studied piano-playing and Musicology with working as a concert planner and operator. These 10 years of music industry experiences as a musician, musicologist and mediator has helped me to understand the operating logic of the field of arts.
The primary goal of my research is to investigate how Korean cultural policy field is structured and organized since its rapid turning point in 2005. By analyzing public cultural organizations, laws and regulations, artists and mediators, and cultural events and programs, my research tries to examine what leads and brings critical policy changes. The second stream of my research examines how arts and culture is acknowledged and valued in Korean social contexts. 'Local culture' and 'Everyday culture' is the main policy field to investigate the relationship between arts and society.
